About

Maia Madden
Born near Bordeaux, France, to a French mother and a Yugoslav father, Maia immigrated to the United States as a child. She grew up in New Jersey and France and earned a B.A. in Comparative Literature from New College, Florida, and an M.A. in Journalism from the University of California/Berkeley. After settling in San Francisco, her life path has included starting and running a cafe, editing various publications, including the Yoga Journal, Epicurean Rendezvous Restaurant Guides and AM/PM Guide to Northern California, raising her three boys and two girls and surviving a divorce after 24 years of marriage. The author of Treat Your Man Like A Dog…And Live Happily Ever After — a relationship primer for women who love dogs, she is now working on a memoir. Her main interest as a writer is discovering what makes people laugh and what makes them cry as they try to create and control their lives, lives that can seem so sure at the start yet often unfurl without warning, distorting dreams, challenging fears, and yet, sometimes, bestowing unexpected blessings. She hopes to touch the hearts of her readers with simple stories of life, death and the tiny meaningful moments in between.
